LOR Corporation was founded by Leon O. Riggs in 1964, as a sister company to United Package Liquors. Read more about our founder here: Aviator of the Year PDF.
His most fascinating business decision began at an early age when he chose to buy a Waco biplane with the money he earned from working in his father’s saloons while still in high school. After teaching his brothers to fly, Le went on to launch crop dusting, aero-advertising banner towing, and skywriting companies.
But his most favorite job was performing aerobatics in air shows across the Midwest. Le would seemingly defy physics as he wowed the crowd with his self-taught stunts and lovely partner, the daring Wendy Knight, riding his wing.
After a stint of the exciting traveling life, Leon settled down with his family in Indianapolis and launched a new career with United Package Liquors in 1964. But finding that a simple life of two businesses, two children and five grandchildren weren’t enough, Le went on to start one more business in 2005: a not-for-profit named the United Hope Foundation.
Le had found many organizations were resistant to receiving donations from a liquor store. So, he created the United Hope Foundation as a gift-distribution not-for-profit to ensure United Package and other businesses alike could help the people of Indianapolis and beyond no matter their source of income.
Leon, though now retired, still takes care of LOR Corporation and is very much involved with United Hope. He now entrusts the daily business functions to his grandson, Adam Hill, and all of the fine associates of LOR Corporation with the understanding that his name and his legacy value tenacity, inspiration and philanthropy.
